New Creation Counseling Center is excited to announce our latest workshop, "It's All Fun and Games: Therapy Interventions for Children
with Behavioral Issues".
This workshop is free and open to the public.
6 CEUs from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board are available for a fee of $30 (Approval
Pending).
At last year's Hope Over Heroin event we spoke to an elderly woman who had recently taken in her young grandchildren. The parents of the children were no longer
around due to consequences from heroin addiction. The story she told us was one we have heard repeatedly from folks in our community. People are stepping into the role of primary caregiver
for children who have been traumatized and may have significant emotional or behavioral problems as a result. The new caregivers don't have the resources or training they need, they don't
know how to help, and become easily overwhelmed.
Because of this, we are offering a training workshop to educate people on how to interact therapeutically with children who have emotional or behavioral issues.
This 6-hour workshop will help attendees learn ways to participate in play time with a child, and will include discussion and practice of skills based in play therapy theories to assist children
that exhibit behavioral or emotional issues. Popular games will be used during the workshop to help attendees learn how to encourage children to develop coping and planning skills. There will be
opportunity to practice all the learned skills to become a better support person or therapist to the children they interact with.
