In mental health we are seeing a greater emphasis on the idea of trauma and it's role in the development of mental health disorders.  The groundbreaking Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACES) is just one example of how important it is to understand the impact that developmental trauma has on an individual and on their mental and physical health.

In this workshop offered by New Creation Counseling Center, our new clinical director Charles Roberts will unpack the concept of developmental trauma and discuss some of the findings from the ACES project.  Strategies for assessment and intervention will be examined in an experiential and interactive workshop setting.  Upon completion of this workshop attendees will be able to:

  • Define and understand the impact of Developmental Trauma on adult functioning
  • Apply research from Adverse Childhood Experiences literature to gain a deeper understanding of this effective assessment tool
  • Apply new tools for effective assessment of developmental history
  • Understand and apply mindfulness, somatic, gestalt and cognitive interventions as utilized in Pia Mellody's Post-Induction Therapy model
  • Understand the 5 Core Needs of a child, while teaching 5 Core Practices for healthy physical, emotional and spiritual wellness
  • Apply understanding of Developmental Trauma to treating various client populations: couples, child/adolescent, addiction

For mental health professionals, 6 Continuing Education Units are available from the Ohio Counselor, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board for a fee of $30.
